Amy Shapiro MS, RD, CDN, is the founder and director of Real Nutrition, a NYC-based private practice dedicated to healthfully and successfully guiding clients to their optimal nutrition, weight, and overall wellness. Read below to learn more about Amy's practice, nutrition philosophy, and how she uses Euphebe in her busy life.
When did you realize you wanted to be a dietitian?
After I graduated from college and moved to NYC, I worked in corporate for 8 years. However, during that time, I was always learning about nutrition and wellness. I became a yoga instructor, read everything I could get my hands on and even took a nutrition course from a fellow yogi. I finally decided I needed to do it for “real,” applied to NYU, quit my job and went back to school full time to get my RD. It was a true passion I couldn’t ignore.
What is your nutrition philosophy?
It doesn’t have to be so complicated. Eat real food, focus on plants, be picky about quality and eat when you are hungry but stop before you are full.
We love your motto “Real Food. Real Life. Real Solutions”, can you tell us more about what this means to you?
I take a very realistic approach to nutrition. I want my clients to feel that they can continue to live their lives while meeting their nutrition goals without feeling deprived. So I help them to create a plan that fits into their busy day, travel schedule and social calendar. Life doesn’t revolve around your diet, your diet should fit into your life. With simple tips and tricks you can go and eat anywhere without falling off your plan. My programs fit into any situation and my clients can apply them anytime, anywhere.
What are the health goals of your clients?
I see clients for many reasons including weight loss, elevated blood sugar/pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, allergies/intolerance, general wellness, GI disorders, hormonal/endocrine issues as well as pre/post-natal nutrition.
Can you tell us about your experience with Euphebe?
I've really enjoyed my Euphebe meals. I am a HUGE fan of using your freezer as a healthy back up plan. Many of my clients don’t have time to cook or pack lunch and I love that Euphebe is there when they need it. I also love that it lasts in freezer - in NYC, dining out happens a lot so the fact that the food is frozen makes you feel less guilty not eating in since it won’t go bad!
How do you use Euphebe in your everyday life?
I find that I use Euphebe for quick dinners after a long day when I come home to an empty fridge and no leftovers. I also bring it for lunch on busy days when I didn’t have time to pop out to pick up lunch. Super easy and helpful.
How do you use Euphebe in your practice?
I recommend it to many clients who just simply don’t have time to cook (and there are a lot of them). I also recommend it to clients who want to move towards a more plant based lifestyle. It is a great product to add to their diet since I know it contains many nutrients plant based eaters may miss in the beginning of their transition to this diet. It's the perfect go-to meal to have on-hand.
What types of clients do you recommend Euphebe to?
All of them! Plant based or not, I think great tasting, nutritious food that focuses on plants and doesn’t compromise on flavor fits into everyone’s healthy lifestyle. In NYC, it really is about convenience, speed and results. Euphebe provides it all.
What is your favorite part about Euphebe?
The fact that it is frozen. I hear all too often about fresh food going bad because people forget to eat it or that plans changed. I also LOVE that Euphebe is not a raw/cold food. I am a warm food person and often crave hot dishes for my meals. I love that Euphebe isn’t just “salad”.
What was your favorite Euphebe meal?
Thai Green coconut curry - delicious!!!!
